Armed with an obsessive love of color-coding and all things related to organization, I’m on a mission to help you maximize efficiency in your business and life so you can spend time on what matters most to you.
Equally right and left-brained, I’m that unique business owner who can think like a creative, but act like an administrator. This blog is where you’ll see me bring that dual-brained magic to life, taking the left-brain side of life and breaking it down for your right-brained self.
In the midst of a full season —in life, business, or both — we often want nothing more than a moment or two to take a step back and just breathe. We long for rest and margin, but it feels like they’re nowhere in sight.
Unfortunately, some seasons of life are just full and we don’t have much of a choice but to make it through them. But even in the midst of those fuller-than-normal season, there can still be the margin to take a step back and breathe.
How? The answer, my friend, is systems.

By now, it should be obvious — I kind of love systems.
They have the potential to do so many incredible things for your life and your business and one of the best is adding margin and breathing room, no matter how full a season may be.
Even when your to-do list feels like it’s a million miles long, even when it feels like the only way to get all your work done is to never sleep, even when you want to cry a little bit because of everything you need to get done — even in those seasons there is still the opportunity for margin, for rest, for a moment to breathe.
Before we dive into this, I want to give the caveat that systems can only go so far. If you’ve completely overloaded and overcommitted yourself and there legitimately are not enough hours in the day to do all the things you’ve said you’ll do, then the most sophisticated systems in the world will not save you.
But even in that kind of situation, they can help you gain back some of the control you feel like you’ve lost and get you closer to completing everything on your to do list!
Perhaps the biggest benefit of systems, especially in a season that already feels like there’s way too much going on, is that they can save you so much time.
The more you do something, the faster it goes, which means the more you get into the routine and habit of doing certain things in your life or business in a certain way, the less time they’ll take.
They also save you time because you aren’t wasting it trying to remember what to do next, when you should do something, or whether or not you forgot something. You know exactly what to do, when to do, and never have to waste precious time or brain space wondering if you missed something.
This allows you to knock things out in a quick, organized fashion, freeing you up to move onto the next thing on that to-do list with confidence!
Sir Albert Einstein once said, “Never memorize something you can look up.”
How many times in your life have you wasted minutes or possibly even hours trying to remember what you were supposed to do next, where you last left something, or whether or not you forgot something on your to-do list?
And how many times has your brain felt over full from all the little details and exhausted from trying to remember #allthethings that you don’t feel like you have the capacity to focus on the other things that really matter, like major projects in your business or time with your family?
Another way systems add margin to your life — and your brain! — is by saving you all that brain space in the first place.
When there’s an established system, you don’t have to waste the brain space or decision-making power choosing when to do something, trying to remember all the steps in a process, or anything else.
All you have to do is follow the established procedure and you’re good to go!
I don’t know about you, but I hate when I forget to do something, especially if it’s for someone else. It’s one of the worst feelings ever to feel like I let someone down, and it’s usually in those seasons where there’s a lot going on.
I’ve alluded to this already, but another way systems add margin to your life is by keeping things from falling through the cracks.
No longer do you have to worry about missing an important step in your life or your business. As long as you follow the system, everything that needs to get done will get done!
This means the regular things happening in your life won’t fall through the cracks, and since you don’t have to worry about any of those things, you have that freed up time and brain space to focus on the one-off events or tasks to ensure those don’t fall through the cracks either!
It might not seem like much, but implementing systems to save you time, brain space, and keep things from falling through the cracks does absolute wonders.
In those super full seasons, it gives you the confidence to take that 30 minute coffee break, knowing that there’s still a lot to do, but things will get done and you don’t have to worry about how or when.
You can take care of yourself, take a step back, and breathe, all while knowing the systems will be there to help you make what needs to happen happen.
